Andrew Sydney Washam
April 21, 1966 - September 3, 2021
On Friday, September 3rd, Drew Washam passed away peacefully in his sleep at home at the age of 55. Born in Houston, TX, he lived his whole life there, with only brief stints “abroad” in Dallas and Phoenix, AZ made possible by his career with Guitar Center.
Drew lived a life of joy and compassion for others. Friendly as he could be, he brightened the lives of those he touched and made people feel valued and important. He refused to take a lot of life too seriously - his was a search for the more meaningful interactions of human connection rather than the busy stuff that can easily occupy our attention. His focus on people over things was an inspiration.
Drew will be deeply missed by his family, including his wife Sandra, brothers Chris and Bill and their wives Jen and Claudia, and his mother Sydney - and by dear cousins and friends too numerous to count. Drew joins his father Brad, whom he cared for in his final years.
A celebration of his life will be held in Kerrville, his sanctuary, and also near his home in Meadows Place. Details for family and friends to join us on the hill will be shared later. For now, we invite those who knew and loved Drew to join us on Sunday, October 17th at the Meadows Place Community Center at 11975 Dorrance Lane (1-5 pm) (if you've never heard of it, that's between Houston and Sugar Land).
In keeping with Drew's spirit, this will be a decidedly informal event! Come as you like, but we encourage a very casual, festive atmosphere. Think: tie-dyed shirts and flip-flops. That's how he would like it. This announcement even feels more formal than Drew would probably have wanted it to be. Also, we hope to hear fun (and funny) stories from Drew's life, or other meaningful memories. We know there will be plenty of those and we hope everyone will be able to share.
Like the many gatherings we've had in the past, both with family and friends, we also invite anyone who would like to, to bring a pot-luck dish to share - sides, snacks, desserts, whatever - and BYOB. This is entirely optional, and please contact Chris & Jen (call 281-494-2754 and leave a message) if you plan to bring anything and let them know what that will be, so we can be prepared. Flowers and such are not necessary, but pictures and memories are.
