Allen “Jay” Rogers, 73, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend whose life was defined not only by his professional accomplishments, but by the deep and lasting relationships he built with the people he loved.

Jay was born and raised in Dickinson, Texas. He graduated from Baylor University and later completed graduate studies at Rutgers University and the University of Houston. During his time in college, he was a catcher for the Baylor baseball team his freshman year and a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. There, he met some of his best friends for life, affectionately known as “The Chaparrals.”

Jay was a respected leader in the Texas banking industry with more than 40 years of experience in commercial lending. He was the CEO of IBC Bank Houston, established in 1997, where he devoted nearly three decades to building and guiding the organization. He also served on the International Bancshares Corporation Investment Committee and then continued his work as president of IBC Bank Rockport and chairman emeritus of IBC Bank Houston Board of Directors and IBC Bank Corpus Christi Board of Directors. His accomplishments were recognized by Dickinson High School when he was inducted into its Alumni Hall of Fame in 2018.

Jay gave generously of his time, talent, and leadership to the community throughout his life. He served on the boards of the Texas Business Hall of Fame Foundation, The Center for Hearing and Speech, Covenant House, and the Coastal Conservation Association. He also served as chairman of the American Heart Association Houston Chapter and the InTown Chamber of Commerce.

While his professional life was remarkable, Jay’s heart was always with his family and friends. He had a deep love for Rockport, Texas, where Julie and he recently made their home. He was happiest on a beach, at a baseball game, fishing, tinkering with random projects, and enjoying his favorite Mexican food and margaritas. In these moments, he would enthusiastically say, “Now we’re living!”

Above all else, Jay will be remembered for the way he made people feel — steady, supported, and valued. He was a man of integrity, quiet strength, and generosity of spirit. He took immense pride in his family and found his greatest joy in being present with them.

His absence leaves a profound void, but his legacy lives on in the family and friends he loved fiercely the lives he touched, and the community he helped shape. He is survived by his wife, Julie Rogers; his daughter and son-in-law, Lauren and Leigh Ellis; his son and son-in-law, Barrett Rogers and John Berry; his beloved grandchildren, Harrison and Grier Ellis; his father-in-law, Bob Combs; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jennifer and Kirk Richardson; and his precious pup, Allie Joy. Jay will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.

Jay’s service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, at The Story Church, 3223 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX 77098.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center designated for lung cancer research in Jay’s memory. Donations may be made through MD Anderson Giving gifts.mdanderson.org, or to The Story Church Houston http://www.thestory.church/give
