Monte Strickland

February 11, 1958 — March 25, 2023

Monte Strickland was an unselfish, genuine person.

With his bright smile, blue eyes, warm laugh, and sharp wit Monte could light up any room.
He had an amazing ability to share a joke that would get a laugh, no matter the situation.

Monte put the needs of others before his own. He lived with integrity and could be counted on to make the hard choice to always take the high road. Our world is a better place because of the time he spent in it.

Monte called Houston home, bleeding all the colors of the local teams (except maybe the Texans!) Galveston was his favorite escape. Monte loved to feel the sea breeze on his face as he explored the island.

Besides his family, Monte’s friends were his life’s treasure. He cherished each and every moment spent with them.

On June 1, 1996 Monte and Liz blended their families. In typical fashion he spent the next 27 years changing our lives.

Monte taught us the joy of a medium rare steak, how to properly peel crawfish, marveled at the beauty of nature, splashed with us at Schlitterbahn, and led the troops on the annual “Do not tell your mom how much we spent on the fireworks!” expedition. He strong-armed the kids into watching It’s A Wonderful Life every Christmas Eve. And they repaid the favor, forcing him to grudgingly watch A Christmas Story afterward.

Monte saved his biggest smiles for when he was called “Pawpaw” by Landyn, Scarlett, Sage, Memphis, Jett, and Sawyer.  He enjoyed family afternoons around the pool and cannon ball contests with the grandkids. Monte loved to play guitar and sing for us, among his favorites were Elton John and the Beatles. (Yet another lesson he passed on to the kids.)

Our deepest thank you to Cy Fair Home Health, Devotion Palliative Care and Hospice for their exceptional care in his final days. A very special thank you to Dr. Rashad Ramkissoon who treated Monte like a friend from day one.

Monte is preceded in death by his son Matthew Strickland and his father Jay Strickland.

Monte is celebrated by his wife Liz, son Matthew and wife Logan, daughter Rachel, and grandkids Landyn, Scarlett, Sage, Memphis, Jett, and Sawyer, his sisters Jill and Joy, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

For those wishing to make a remembrance in his name, Monte’s wish was Coastal Conservation Association Texas, 6919 Portwest DR., Suite 100, Houston, TX, 77024. Please write his name in the memo line.

We find peace in knowing that Monte is in Heaven.
Happy, free and feeling a gentle breeze on his face.
