Lee Reed

February 10, 1939 — December 22, 2022

Lee Jude Reed of Crowley, Louisiana died on December 22, 2022 at the age of 83. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Lee was born and raised in Crowley where he lived for 80 years before moving to Houston, Texas where he lived the past 3 years. Having lived in the same hometown for his entire life, he left behind many lifelong friends and family that were very dear to him.

Lee attended Crowley High School, graduating in 1957. He was a Fighting Gentleman earning many football honors while there and went on to play for LSU. He later joined the U.S. Army where he played football and admittedly drank lots of beer! He went on to work in the oilfield for 40 years, ultimately retiring with Exxon Mobil. While employed, he was considered an industry expert having trained many in the field of diesel mechanics.

He was married to his wife Anita Cart Reed for over 57 years. The last few years, they enjoyed living in Atwood Acres surrounded by so many sweet families that were always up for a quick visit under “the tree” or to share a meal. They treated them like family and he did the same. He was most thankful for the constant support of his neighbors and especially of his sister Nonee and her daughters Karen and Gail.

He was a big sports fan in particular any LSU sport and as well as Saints Football. He was most proud that all three of his children graduated from LSU. While living in Texas, he became an Astros fan and enjoyed following the Texas Longhorns, the Baylor Bears, and the Texas A & M Aggies given three of his grandchildren's attendance to these colleges. As a grandfather to six, he never missed an opportunity to participate in their events or brag about their accomplishments to anyone who would listen. His children and grandchildren meant everything to him.

Lee was quite adventurous and never met a stranger. He was an outdoorsman and took his kids and grandchildren fishing, crabbing and crawfishing every chance he could get. And of course there was always a big cookout as a follow up to the excursion. He had a deep affection for any activity water related, a love he certainly passed onto his family. After retiring, he bought a motorcycle and traveled the country. He was known for being a great conversationalist with a bit of wit. In his later years, he enjoyed meeting people and making new friends from all over the world while living at Brookdale in Houston. He was genuinely happiest surrounded by his family and friends, having a good meal and a glass of scotch.

He is preceded in death by his parents Bernadette Bergeron Reed and Lee Jesse Reed as well as his wife Anita Cart Reed and his sister Jane Hebert. He is survived by his sister Dinah (Nonee) Reed Hoyt, daughters Robyn R. Drago and husband Darron Drago, Edie R. Adams and son Lee Jesse Reed and wife Leigh Reed as well as his grandchildren Jennifer Drago, Victor Drago, Caroline Adams, Maddie Rose, Lee Jude Reed, and Maria Reed.

Services and burial will be planned for a later date in Crowley, LA, Donations and memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Hospital in his honor. The family would like to thank all of the family and friends for their support these last few months.
