Jean Richner

September 27, 1922 — January 3, 2023

Lovingly surrounded by family members, Jean Fraser Richner, age 100, peacefully left this earth on January 3, 2023, to be with the Lord. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald R. Richner, daughter, Carol Richner, and son, James Richner.

Jean was born on September 27, 1922, in Northwood Narrows, NH. She grew up on a farm and followed her dad around learning to milk a cow, ride horses, pick apples, tap maple trees for syrup, pick blueberries, haying, and growing vegetables in the garden. For fun, she liked swimming, ice skating and tobogganing.

She lived in Ohio for 29 years, where she raised her 7 children. Later, she worked as a bookkeeper and then as a real estate broker. She found time to serve her community as a PTA president, President of Emblem Club #85, and as President of the Lake County Chapter of Women’s Council of Realtors.

Jean lived in Houston, Texas for the past 42 years, where she completed her career as an office manager at Lutheran Brotherood. During retirement she began each day by reading her Bible, reading the current events in the newspaper, completing a word puzzle, and riding her exercise bike 3 - 8 miles. Other favorite activities included growing African violets and roses, playing bridge in several neighborhood groups, and doing jigsaw puzzles. She volunteered many hours at her church and was well known for her faithfulness in making homemade cookies for over 30 years for the monthly blood mobile. She particularly enjoyed driving around with her next-door neighbor as part of the neighborhood watch program. She delightedly called it going “copping.”

Jean was best known for her love of the Lord and being a woman of prayer. Her legacy includes her prayers and encouragement for her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters: Kathleen Locke & spouse Doug Locke, Denver, NC; Sheree Paramore & spouse Randy Paramore, Tomball, Texas; Roberta Hayes and spouse Ed Hayes, Baden Lake, NC; daughter-in-law Mary Ann Richner, Concord Township, OH; and her sons: Donald Richner, Manvel, Texas and Dale Richner, Houston, Texas. Jean is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren who have brought her much joy.
