Stanley Lewis Morrow

Stanley “Stan” Lewis Morrow, age 69, oil man, Bar-B-Que master, and charming character passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on Saturday, October 30, 2021, in Houston, Texas.

A native Texan, Stan was born July 31, 1952, at Fort Hood to Garland and Helen Morrow. Stan grew up in the Texas Panhandle and spent his career working on drilling rigs all over the world. Stan is survived by his children a son Heath Morrow and his wife Ashley and their daughter Madison; a daughter Heather and her husband Glenn and their boys Ryan, Garrett, and Hayden; daughter Shannon and her husband Carroll and their children Kayla, Emma and Clayton, and one great-grandchild Sage Wyatt. Stan is preceded in death by his parents.

Stan had many nicknames, “Stan the Man” being one favored by many friends, but “Papa Cowboy” was the most important and favored by his grandchildren.

Stan was a true Cowboy at heart. He had a love for music both playing and appreciation. He enjoyed singing, however, he was often off key, and spent a good deal of time strumming his guitar to an Eagles tune. Stan was fluent in Spanish, fine cigars, and loved to dance the night away. He could scoot a boot like no other and was his daughter’s favorite dancing partner. You could usually find him enjoying a smooth glass of Crowne Royal and a Hank Williams Jr. tune.

Stan was happiest during rodeo season where he was a Lifetime Committeeman for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He sponsored countless Youth FFA animal projects. Stan served on the Corral Club and Equipment Committee for HLSR and The Stock and Stollen Bar B Que Cookoff team. He served for years as a member of the Houston Farm and Ranch Club. HFRC hosted many community events and for over 20 years Stan dressed up as Santa Claus for the annual holiday party. Stan also was a volunteer for the Harris County Fair. He was a world class grill master and famous in his grandchildren’s eyes for “Ribs, Tacos, and Cowboy Beans Night”.

Stan truly lived every moment to the fullest. His love for celebrating the holidays and decorating in grand style for Christmas were legendary, inspiring his children to serve their community, think big and always find time to dance. Stan’s hearty laugh, and larger than life personality will forever be missed.

A private family celebration of life service will be held closer to Houston rodeo time. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the youth scholarship fund at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
