Anna Hoffmann

March 9, 1944 — December 14, 2021

On December 14, 2021, Ms. Anna Alma Hoffmann, age 77, (born Dorothy Anne, changed name as an adult) passed away in Houston, TX, to join other family and friends in the realm beyond. She was born March 9, 1944, on Bainbridge Island, Washington, where parents were stationed during World War II. Her parents, deceased, were Theodore August Hoffmann of Chicago, Illinois, and Dorothy Elizabeth Ferchaud Hoffmann of New Orleans, Louisiana. Anna is survived by her two sisters, Beverly L. Hoffmann of Georgetown, TX, and Barbara E. Hoffmann of Houston, TX.

Anna graduated from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, TX, and earned a B.A. in English and an M. A. in English Literature at University of North Texas (formerly North Texas State University) in Denton, TX. She was also talented in music and art. She was awarded a teaching fellowship to pursue her Ph. D. in English Literature at University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK. Highly accomplished in several languages, Anna was erudite in her conversations. Overcome by the onset of chronic illness in her twenties, Anna was unable to complete her doctorate. Anna was also an accomplished artist studying in acrylics and oils on canvas, water color, pastels, pen and pencil, and charcoal. She experimented with landscapes, human and animal portraits, still life, cubist and geometrical art. She was also creative with yarn and knitted and crocheted many pieces she donated to the Disabled Veterans. Anna was an activist and stood up for those less fortunate than she. She loved animals and regularly supported local animal shelters and wildlife conservation organizations.

Anna was a beautiful, talented, and dear person who, due to chronic illness, was unable to reach her full potential during her life. Anna was kind, much loved, and will be missed by her family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests to please send donations to your local SPCA or Humane Society, or to the Disabled American Veterans or the Wounded Warriors Project.
